Cross-country is offered for students in Grades 2-8. Cross-country is different than track and field or road running. Cross country runners cover grass and hilly terrain race courses, through woods and fields, running distances which vary between 1.5 miles and 1.7 miles depending upon the course.
Practices are generally held one to three times per week, usually at a local park where our races are held. We run at the Timber Creek Dog Park for our league races. There are no cuts; all registered athletes will be placed on a team.
The cross-country team competes against other public and catholic schools located throughout Gloucester and Camden Counties. Races are usually held on Saturday mornings. The season begins in early-September and ends with the league championship in the last week of October or first week in November. In addition to the league schedule, we also participate in special event races like the Cherokee Challenge, the South Jersey Shootout, and the South Jersey Open, which are sponsored and held by local high schools. The season ends with the league championship with awards to top placing finishers in the boys and girls races respectively.
The Head of the Cross Country Program is Ryan Sheppard.
